Shooting in RAW

Ah! Finally found my RAW option.. and I'm in love w/ shooting in it. I never shoot out of Manual mode now and it's so liberating, albeit at times very frustrating.... I'm also beginning to take part in a "365 Challenge". The idea is to take some form of self portrait every single day for a year, to boost creativity and technique (along w/ technical skills, forced photos helps you practice!). This is a few examples of a recent 'self portrait' attempt on a rainy day... I REALLY need some external light help (a speedlite would be nice... some day):

  1. I found your blog on the "bump" you pasted it into a post. Your very talented!! I think you said you have the Canon Rebel ? I have that camera and have really no clue what I'm doing. Who teaches you? How did you learn to shoot in the raw? Tell me! Tell me!

  2. Wow, thanks for looking! I do have the Canon Rebel XT (bought it back in 05 honestly so I could have it for my honeymoon and I knew next to nothing!!). There are some great books ("Understanding Exposure" is AWESOME!), and things like the Canon Rebel XTi for Dummies (helps explain the basics of using the camera - very helpful for learning)... I go to a few photography based websites like ilovephotography.com (for pros/beginner-wanting to get into pros etc) and Mom's with a Camera is another great resource for learning!

Honestly most of it is practice practice practice! The web has tons of cool info at your fingertips and lots of blogs too!

Thanks for checking out my blog! :)

  3. Oh - and shooting in RAW format is just an option I finally figured out how to do on the Rebel (it's actually really easy, just takes up lots of memory - I knew it was there I just never knew how to FIND it because I kept looking under photo ops other than *Manual* mode - it's under the quality options there, that's the only place you can use it.. big DUH on my part haha..
